Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that helps to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars by stimulating the skin’s natural ability to repair itself.

How It Works

We use the first FDA-approved microneedling device called SkinPen equipped with fine needles to create micro-channels (microscopic holes) at a rate of 1600 per second. This process triggers the body’s wound healing process, stimulating collagen and elastin production. The result is improved skin texture and firmness, as well as a reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks.

Benefits

  • Stimulates natural collagen and elastin production
  • Improves skin texture and reduces the appearance of wrinkles
  • Helps reduce scars, stretch marks, and pore size
  • Enhances the absorption of topical skin products

What to Expect

During the procedure, a topical anesthetic is applied to minimize discomfort. The microneedling device is then moved across the skin, creating micro-channels. A soothing serum is often applied afterwards to aid in healing. Dr. Sedghi may recommend the concomitant use of collagen producing peptides to be added on to the treatment to have a boosted effect for optimal results given that they will be able to penetrate these tiny channels and speed up the production of collagen.

Post-treatment, you may notice redness and mild swelling, similar to a slight sunburn, for 24-48 hours, and there may be minimal pin-point bleeding and/or bruising. Within a few days, you’ll notice a smoother, more radiant complexion.

Treatment Plan

The number of treatments required varies based on individual skin health and desired results. However, most patients receive 4-6 treatments, spaced about a month apart.

Safety and Side Effects

Microneedling is a safe procedure suitable for most skin types. Side effects are typically minimal and temporary. They may include redness, swelling, and a sensation similar to a sunburn. Dr. Sedghi will provide detailed aftercare instructions to minimize potential side effects and ensure a swift recovery.

SkinPen Follows A 3-Step Process

Inflammation

  • SkinPen’s microneedles pierce the skin, triggering your immune system to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow, and begin to create new tissue.

Proliferation

  • The micro-wounds created by SkinPen are rebuilt with new granulation cells that include collagen proteins. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.

Remodeling

  • Remodeling The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels which are comprised of rich collagen and elastin proteins. These proteins improve skin youthfulness.

A: Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that’s used to treat skin concerns via collagen production. Also known as collagen induction therapy, this treatment may help those looking to reduce the appearance of acne scars and stretch marks, among other skin conditions.

A: Microneedling works by encouraging your skin to make more collagen. The idea is that pinpricks from the procedure cause slight injury to the skin and that the skin responds by making new collagen-rich tissue.

A: While microneedling isn’t painless, it isn’t considered to be very painful. A topical anesthetic is applied before the procedure to minimize discomfort.

A: After microneedling, your skin works fairly quickly to rejuvenate new tissue. In theory, you should see results within a couple of weeks. Immediately after the procedure, you will notice redness, similar to a mild sunburn, which will subside in a couple of days
